This calendar is a unique Antarctican Society product. All of the photos in the calendar are from the Society’s Photo Library which is composed of donations from our members. The historical events shown on individual calendar dates were curated by Antarctic historian and Society Secretary, Joan Boothe. The calendar layout was created by Elaine Hood. We intend to continue the calendar in future years so be sure you have the very first one!

Below is a sample month from the calendar. The photo is unique because it not been published since 1957. Its author, Lt. John Swadener, was navigator on the first plane to land at the geographic South Pole in Octobern1956. His were the only photos successfully taken on the ground during that landing because the extreme temperature froze others’ cameras. He kept his photos from public distribution. His family has now donated the images to the Society and granted use of them by the Society (NOTE: This image is copyrighted by the Swadener family). You won’t this on any other calendar!
