Retired Professional Engineer in Alaska. First became involved with the US Antarcitic Program in 1995. My engineering firm was selected to develop the mechanical, electrical and utilities infrastructure design for the 3rd generation Amundsen Scott South Pole Station. Within Alaska, our speciality was remote cold regions facilities. My first trip to the Ice was in 1995, including a site visit and as-builting trip to South Pole Station. Fell in love with Antarctica quite frankly. My involvement continued for the next decade or so, through design, phased construction and commissioning of the new Station. I had the great pleasure of making approximately 8 trips to the Ice over that time period, and to attend the official Station dedication. I have participated in a few follow-on activities associated with South Pole Station, and to a lessor extent McMurdo, but, sadly, have not returned to the Ice since 2009. Within Alaska I finsihed a 40 year career in consulting engineering and retired to “the End of the Road”, Homer, Alaska.
